The project has three main results as follow:

ER1: Agricultural oriented CSOs are better equipped to engage farmers and advocate for their rights in targeted regions.

ER2: Capacities of the District Farmers’ Network in representing farmers’ interests, rights and needs are strengthened.

ER3: Improved collaboration and coordination among agricultural oriented CSOs at national level for improved level of influence over policies and decision making.

2. Objectives of the Assignment

Within the framework of this project, International Alert is recruiting a consultant to develop and to give a training for targeted Farmers’CSOs on how to conduct a participatory conflict analysis and how to use the results to inform action planning .

3. Purpose of the Assignment

The purpose of this consultancy is to help the DFN to: The consultant will be contracted to train 22 members from the DFN steering committee the training should help participants to learn:

How to conduct participatory conflict and gender analysis and how to use the results to inform action planning
Gender sensitive conflict analysis techniques
How to develop an action plan based on conflict analysis

4.Specific tasks

The desired consultant is expected to conduct a 4-days training divided in two parts:

The first part will focus on:

How to undertake a participatory gender and conflict analysis
How to develop an action plan based on conflict analysis

The second part will focus on:

A Training of trainers in which steering committee members will be equipped with strategies and tools for stepping-down of the training to other members of DFN
Practice of acquired knowledge to be able to get more practical guidance in order to step it down

In addition, the consultant will:

Prior to the training, prepare the training materials in draft form and share these with the team for validation
Prepare a succinct training report no more than 5 pages indicating the content of the training and what was achieved.

5.Methodology

The consultant is expected to develop his/her own methodology for this training, based on the scope of the work and objectives of the training. Apart from above scope and objectives, the consultant is free to propose his/her own methodology, however the methodology proposed by the consultant will be discussed and validated with the project team and partners before training begins.

6.Proposal Evaluation Criteria

International Alert will evaluate proposals and select a consultant based on the following criteria:

a. Qualifications and experience of the consultant’s proposed team to do the assignment based on the qualifications and competencies listed in this TOR.

b. The track record of successfully completing similar assignments.

C. Value for money for services rendered

The consultant must be able to meet deadlines and must be prepared to share draft material

with International Alert for comment and feedback.

8.Qualifications and competences for the Expert

A Post Graduate degree in Peacebuilding with Gender background
Conflict and Gender analysis expertise;
Experience in undertaking capacity building training
Good knowledge and experience of designing training modules for CSOs
Solid methodological and research skills;
Knowledge on ethical research principles and experience applying them in practice;
Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda and ability to write clearly and concisely in English is essential;
Ability to engage people in conversation and record answers clearly and accurately;
Organizational and team engagement skills;
Excellent facilitation skills
